My 3900x / 2080ti completely destroys it. I don’t know if you were joking, but if your M1 is keeping up with your 5950x and 3080 with 6GB/S NVME in any way then you need to get that looked at. And it means that my storage can stay with me for the next version. I’ve gone for thunderbolt nvme, and I’ve seen no performance limitation at all.

Not when the M1 mini could look a little outdated in fairly short time and my intention is to upgrade ASAP. I wanted that CPU, and I wanted the extra RAM to help it along but I didn’t see any point in spending Apple money on just a little more storage. I also went for the 16/256 for the same reasons as you. At least some of them came out with follow ups to show that the memory was heavily constrained, pressure was high, they were swapping like hell, and showed that performance was indeed better with 16GB. So many were carrying out cpu heavy tasks, comparing them to a higher RAM equipped Intel Mac, and proclaiming that the established rules of computing no longer applied. The reviews close to launch which were making memory judgements were infuriating.

If you have any questions lmk, especially any pc guys. If you are already considering on buying the next mac mini, I think this is probably the best solution and save some cash to put it for accessories or even a monitor.Īt the current moment, I am using this as my dual station and is keeping up with my 5950x and 3080. One last thing, I opt for the 256gb model bc getting an nvme enclosure along with a sata 2tb SSD would be cheaper than outright buying the 500gb or even 1tb model. To keep it short, 8gb will get you far unless you are a content creator. 8gb is enough and I guess if you are not doing demanding work like rendering, exporting and heavy photo retouching then the base model is more than just enough. Not sure why all of these youtubers are suggesting 8gb, but unless you are going to do emails, some light school work and maybe some photo editing, you will need to use 16gb model. I would however, add and say it's best to stick to the 16gb of ram because 8gb is not enough. Super snappy, so fluid and coming from 6gb nvme gen 4 read and write speeds, the 2gb speeds it has is fast enough. For those of you who are like me and skeptical about it keeping up, don't worry about it. As first gen, this sure as hell looks to punch above it's weight.Īlright, so let's get to it. M1 chip: it's literally the first iteration.(I think this one is a big deal unless you are running ethernet either way) If I had this issue, my review would be completely different. Wifi Issues- Not sure why, but a lot of people have reported to have issues with connectivity.I have been lucky and havent experience any of it but I know it's prevalent with a lot of people

The price is right, they got it here quickly, and the quality appears to be great. So I have a lot to say here since I have always bashed on apple for it's overpriced items and finally eating my own words lolįor a little context, since college, I have been building computers for myself, friends and family. Overall, this is probably the cheapest way to quickly upgrade an old device to a more reasonable amount of memory for 2020, or to replace a failing pair of memory modules in an older device. I've heard some complaints that the packaging is flimsy but the memory modules are contained in a pretty firm plastic shell before they're put in a padded envelope so I didn't see any issues when it arrived. Even though it was delivered towards the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic when all the shipping delays were beginning, I received the package within a few days of ordering. Upgrading from 4 to 16 GB of memory has really improved the performance significantly and given the price point of this memory kit, it was well worth it. Overall Review: I've had this memory in my mid-2012 MacBook Pro for a little over a month now and it's running wonderfully. Quality and performance appear to be good after ~1.5 months of continuous use, zero failures
